A Fresh Start

Welcome, finally, to Sweet Peas and Honey Bees!

What better a time to start a blog than the first of January? I have a good feeling about 2011- it's a fresh start, a new year.

And speaking of fresh starts, in the early hours of January 1st, 2011, after a rousing game of New Years Eve Yahtzee with my parents and my cat (I know I'm awesome, you don't have to tell me.) I finished a project in my bedroom using a wall treatment tutorial from Ruche. I have been wanting to re-paint my room for ages now, but unfortunately, I am a poor college student. So I took a gamble and tried the book page paper-mache wall treatment on one of my walls. Honestly, what a difference! My room seems bigger and I think it looks beautiful and it's a refreshing change from the Happy Camper Green.

The whole project took me about 3 days to complete, working here and there when I had an extra hour to spare. I was a little suspicious about the starch actually keeping the pages on my wall, but it worked really well, especially if I let it sit for a little bit in the pan before rolling it on the wall.

I used two old Reader's Digest books from Goodwill ($2.49 each), a 2qt jug of Sta Flo ($2.18), and a roller and pan painting set ($7.49) from Walmart. Only about $10 dollars vs. the $100+ I probably would have had to pay for primer, paint and supplies. I still may be tempted to repaint one day, but it works for me for now!
